Classic Military Specified Design And Exacting Precision In A Vintage Pocket Watch By The Esteemed Swiss Manufacturer Longines
Made to US military specifications during world war 2 (WWll) by Longines, this vintage pocket watch incorporated watchmakers finest technology at the time to produce a 21 jewel precision timepiece with a wind indicator to show how much energy was left in the mainspring at any given time. The up down wind indicator showed the user, usually the navigator on an aircraft when to wind the watch. This watch also had a hacking feature which used a large sweep second hand, which when the crown was pushed would go to zero and count seconds, which was used to determine air speed, etc.
The 21 jewel nickel movement was adjusted to 5 positions, technically making it a railroad grade movement. This watch has recently been professionally cleaned, oiled, and adjusted and runs very accurately and strong. The silver 24 hour military dial has easy to read bold Arabic numerals and matching deep blue hands.
Collectors of both militaria as well as fine pocket watches will appreciate the turn of the century style and attention to detail that went into the making of this Longines pocket watch.
