How to wear your watch with a t-bar chain How to wear your watch with a t-bar chain
Vest or T-Bar chains can be worn by either men or women - the latter are usually smaller and more delicate in keeping with the smaller sized women's watches. Many people are not sure of how a T-Bar chain is worn but in fact, it is very simple. The T-Bar fits through a button-hole on the back side of the hole, inside the garment with the bar in a vertical position against the hole, usually on a vest but can also be used with a shirt or blouse. The chain then loops out of the button-hole on the outside of the garment and is attached at the opposite end to the watch which is then kept in the vest pocket or blouse or shirt pocket. One just need pull the watch out of the pocket in order to read the time. T-Bar chains are the type you typically see in old photographs of Victorian men with the vest and the large chain looping across the front. It was a sign of status to have large or more intricately engraved chains, thus many of the men's T-Bar chains are quite ornate. This is also the most commonly collected type of chain for re-enactments.
